Welcome to BuiltOnAir, a podcast and video series about all things Airtable. Each episode, we talk with someone active in the Airtable community to discuss their experiences and showcase an interesting way they’ve used Airtable in their work.
In today’s episode, we speak with Jon Letts: a man with a passion for organization and communication. Jon spent his college years focused on and sometimes giving presentations on the “Productivity Triangle”: Calendar, Email, and Task Lists. It was his belief that if these three things were kept in sync and organized, that nothing would go unnoticed. After discovering Airtable, he realized that there was something missing from the Productivity Triangle - People. Airtable allowed him to seamlessly add another layer to his life-system by linking each email, task, or calendar event to a person. In his words, Airtable and Zapier changed his life - a sentiment to which I’m sure many listeners will agree.
Jon calls his system and subsequent Airtable Base, “Contuity” - a name representative of his passion about creating and understanding connection. As it covers areas of his life such as relationships and thoughts, Jon equates it to a Personal CRM. When he adds a contact to his iPhone, they’re also added to his base. He uses a simple form to add what he calls “Jots”, turning the base into a Bullet Journal of sorts. By using Airtable’s single and multi-select fields, he’s able to categorize each Jot into what he calls “spaces” of his life. All of this culminates into a color-coded chart showing what he spent time thinking about or doing over the last year. Jon shows us the chart and points out what stands out to him the most, such as how his “friendship” category shot way up after his recent move.
There are tons of cool bells and whistles to Jon’s base, which he has published to the Airtable Universe. Check out the show notes for a link!
